Gluten-free dining guide
Eating Out Gluten Free in the UK
A practical guide to choosing restaurants, checking menus and asking the right questions when eating gluten free.
Choosing somewhere to eat
Start with venues that publish clear allergen information or have a dedicated gluten-free menu. Independent specialist venues can be particularly useful, but mainstream restaurants may also have strong procedures.
What to ask before ordering
If you have coeliac disease, ask how the kitchen prevents cross-contact, whether fryers are shared, whether sauces and marinades contain gluten and whether staff can identify the gluten-free preparation process.
Check on the day
Menus and suppliers change. Always confirm the current position before ordering, especially if your visit is important or you have a severe reaction.
